Mogul Jack Dorsey Pledges Support For Bitcoin Developer Community
Tech mogul Jack Dorsey has announced his pledge of $5 million to support the Bitcoin (BTC) developer community. The funds are being donated by his public LLC fund “#smartsmall” which will give $1 million per year for the next 5 years to Brink – a project devoted to strengthening the Bitcoin protocol and network through research and development.
Dorsey’s Longstanding Support Of Bitcoin
Jack Dorsey, billionaire co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, has long been one of Bitcoin’s highest-profile supporters. Just last week he plugged Coinbase’s new partnership with Bitkey – a self-custody wallet developed by his fintech company Block – on Twitter: “Buy Bitcoin from an exchange and move it to a hardware key you control.”
Dorsey’s #SmartSmall Fund
The #smartsmall fund was initially set up as a fund for global COVID-19 relief; however after the pandemic passed this focus shifted to girls’ health and education as well as universal basic income (UBI). This recent donation is part of this greater mission.
Future Of Brink & The BTC Protocol
Brink notes that its cash injection from Dorsey will support its developer funding efforts. They have stated that they are 100% funded by donations from individuals and organizations who wish to support the open source Bitcoin network and protocol. With such generous backing Brink looks set to make great leaps forward in its mission to strengthen BTC through research & development over the coming years.
It is clear that Jack Dorsey stands firmly behind both Blockchain technology & cryptocurrency adoption overall; having made various investments into both sector over recent years via his #SmartSmall Fund with this latest donation being no exception.
